The World Health Assembly will gather in Geneva from 19 to 27 May. Health leaders face nine days of speeches, negotiations and coffee that has lost the will to circulate.

This year’s theme is One World for Health. However, that world has billions of patients and uneven access to treatment. It also develops fresh emergencies before anyone formats the previous action points.

Member states will consider the Pandemic Agreement and other global health challenges. After years of talks, the text now faces an ancient procedure. Someone must ask a large room whether anybody objects.

“The prognosis is cautious but fully catered,” said Dr Petunia Clipboard, Consultant in Multilateral Symptoms. “We booked enough headsets to translate the phrase further consultations into every language.”

Meanwhile, the Global Clinic for Institutional Ailments issued its advice. Delegates should take one plenary after breakfast. In addition, they should avoid heavy resolutions until the amendments wear off.

Every agenda item is urgent and interconnected. Nevertheless, each receives a speaking slot shorter than the queue at an ordinary pharmacy.

Still, cooperation matters. Diseases cross borders without accreditation, hotel bookings or a laminated badge. Therefore, countries must work together before the next crisis designs its logo.
