Lawnland is a proudly fictional nation with a flourishing press, an inflated sense of importance and very little room for either.
Our national newspaper, The Lawn, reports on the outside world from the reassuring distance of complete nonsense. Politics, culture, technology and everyday life all receive the attention they have been trying to avoid.
A small nation with large opinions
Lawnland’s guiding principle is simple: if something is taking itself too seriously, it probably needs a newspaper article about it. Our institutions are imaginary. Their capacity for bureaucracy is entirely believable.
We are the World’s Leading Nation per Square Metre. The Ministry of Statistics has checked this claim against a carefully selected sample of ourselves.
Satire and parody
The Lawn publishes satire and parody. Stories, quotations, characters and national institutions may be invented or exaggerated for comic effect. Lawnland is not a real country, and its newspaper is not a source of factual reporting.
