Tour de France turns suffering into tasteful accessories
The Tour de France has opened a shop with nearly 200 official products, so fans can recreate professional cycling by spending heavily, wearing tight fabric and looking worried near a bottle. The actual cycling remains optional, as it should be for a premium experience.
The range includes team kits, lifestyle goods and limited edition folding bikes. An indoor trainer offers the thrill of crossing France without leaving the room that contains the laundry and the forgotten exercise mat.
The coin celebrates an event by staying completely still
Seven commemorative coins mark fifty years of the Champs Élysées finish. Collectors can now honour cycling’s fastest riders with an object designed to remain untouched in a drawer for several generations.
“Every purchase captures the spirit of the race,” said Claude Peloton Baguette of Monetised Suffering. “The yellow mug represents leadership. The green tea towel represents sprint points and an unresolved kitchen dispute.”
Children can tackle activity books and Panini stickers. Adults also receive a workbook, because a mountain stage naturally makes people crave a reading comprehension exercise about a French hill.
The sofa prepares for a very short time trial
The food guide covers 3,500 kilometres of regional dishes. Consequently, supporters can carbo load like elite riders before completing the demanding sofa to fridge time trial.
One visitor bought a yellow jersey and left feeling like a champion. The contactless payment exhausted him, so a support car took him directly to the café.
The shop expects strong sales. It has found the perfect way to sell endurance sport to people whose greatest summit lies three flights up in a department store.
