Darlington Government Hub gets a model with opinions
The planned five storey office forms part of the Government Hubs Programme, which supports redevelopment of brownfield sites and repurposed buildings for efficient workplaces. That is a practical aim. The imaginary model has called it a personal journey and requested better lighting.
Ground remediation work has prepared the way for construction. The Government Property Agency says the campus is intended to support a range of departments in Darlington. Meanwhile, the model has scheduled a short meeting to decide which corner deserves a ceremonial ribbon.
A building milestone, plus one ambitious miniature
The campus already includes thousands of civil servants across several departments. The new hub marks another stage in that development. First, a site is prepared. Next, construction begins. Then people can plan how the workplace will operate. Finally, the fictional model asks whether it can have a director of atmosphere.
Good public buildings need useful space, careful design and long term planning. The comic model understands only scale. It has begun introducing every blank sheet on the table as a future annex.
By the end of the ceremony, the real project was moving into construction. The model was still white and unmarked. Nevertheless, it had issued a statement praising its own architectural restraint.
