World TB Day 2025 asks leaders to commit, invest and deliver against tuberculosis. The disease killed 1.25 million people in 2023. The Lawn’s policy unit agreed that this sounded urgent, then carefully removed every word that might require money.
World TB Day meets the funding department
First, health officials brought proven plans for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Finance circled the word “proven” and asked whether bulk hope might cost less. It then requested three quotations from optimism.
Professor Penny Shortfall chairs the Urgent Action Postponement Board. She said: “Our World TB Day pledge is ambitious, measurable and printed on both sides. We will commit this afternoon. We will invest after the spending review. Then we will deliver once forwarding an email officially counts as delivery.”
Meanwhile, the board approved a global awareness ribbon but rejected a treatment budget. Medicine creates difficult expectations, members explained. Instead, a task force will test whether bacteria respond to stern lanyards and a logo with a reassuring amount of blue.
Campaigners said early detection and reliable care save lives. Therefore, officials ordered a longer consultation and several regional listening exercises. They also commissioned a soothing dashboard to display the delay in real time, which is the closest anyone has come to treatment.
Finally, delegates stood beneath the slogan COMMIT, INVEST, DELIVER. COMMIT earned applause. Procurement took INVEST away for assessment. DELIVER became a calendar invitation for next year, where it will enjoy broad support and a biscuit.
The board called this progress because nobody had yet changed the slide. Professor Shortfall then unveiled Phase Two: a commemorative mug bearing the words ACTION PENDING. It cost £18.50, plus delivery.
