The UK Anti Doping board has reappointed Suman Ziaullah and Mark Foster for four years. Even a serious public appointment can sound like an endurance event with excellent filing. The announcement supplied experience, governance and the reassuring knowledge that neither director had made a significant political declaration recently.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and UK Anti Doping announced the appointments. They run from 15 July 2025 to 14 July 2029. Ziaullah has served on the board since 2021. Foster starts a second term as a non executive director after more than 25 years in elite sport.
First, capable people are identified. Then, officials consult the relevant code and check the declarations. Finally, the result emerges with the calm dignity of a document that has survived several versions of Word.

Directors receive £215 a day and should attend six board meetings each year. That makes every meeting feel important. It helps even more when the agenda puts the words strategic oversight in bold and the minutes require their own smaller minutes.
“The process was rigorous,” said Daphne Stopwatch, Secretary for Active Governance. “We checked the experience, the declarations and whether the appointment could be described as a four year term without anyone requesting a shorter sentence.”
Under the rules, appointees must declare significant political activity from the previous five years. Both directors declared no such activity. As a result, the announcement moved briskly past the section where public life pauses to inspect its own paperwork. Somewhere, a form sighed with relief.
There is nothing suspicious about this. The board has a serious job supporting clean sport, and proper governance matters. Instead, the comedy comes from official language. It can turn two people continuing useful work into a ceremonial expedition through the forest of compliance.
The UK Anti Doping board now has four years to attend six meetings a year, follow the code and resist calling a routine decision a transformational journey. At that rate, the minutes should arrive just in time for the next reappointment, assuming the action log has not applied for board status.
