Scottish Seafood begins diplomatic tour on ice

Scottish Seafood has travelled to Japan with ministers and enough presentation equipment to convince Tokyo that a langoustine represents a fully investable regional strategy.

The three day visit covers Osaka and Tokyo. It promotes Scottish goods and services, encourages investment and includes meetings with life sciences businesses at Expo 2025. This is serious trade work, though no trade mission has ever improved when a haddock receives a name badge.

Scottish producers bring real expertise and products to international markets. Japanese hosts deserve respect and useful meetings. The joke sits with the choreography that turns every oatcake into a strategic asset with an elevator pitch.

The trade mission pairs tartan with growth

“This scallop represents quality, heritage and scalable mouthfeel,” said Fergus Miso McBriefcase, Envoy for Exportable Suppers. “Please hold questions until the whisky completes slide 47.”

Seafood Scotland joined the push to champion its produce. One haddock objected to the phrase Brand Scotland and asked for a description that reflected its individual stakeholder journey through the cold chain.

Ministers also discussed opportunities in technology and life sciences. A smoked salmon wandered into a biotechnology roundtable, secured seed funding for a refrigerated platform and asked whether the grant covered lemon.

At Expo 2025, delegates put a bottle of whisky beside an innovation panel. The bottle gave more concise answers, attracted a larger crowd and refused to use the phrase global facing ecosystem.

The langoustine closes the deal

Japanese investors asked what distinguishes Scottish seafood. Officials opened a lengthy deck. The langoustine simply tasted excellent and closed the round without a single bullet point.

The mission returns after three days. The haddock has applied for a role as commercial attaché because it alone understands the cold chain paperwork and refuses to attend meetings after lunch.
