Wimbledon Third Round Sends Centre Court Home Before Tea

The Wimbledon third round served Centre Court three brisk wins and gave strawberries no time to form an attachment.

Wimbledon third round treats suspense as a premium service

The Wimbledon third round gave Centre Court three straight set wins and the uneasy sense that an afternoon had been cancelled without written confirmation. Spectators arrived prepared for sporting theatre and found elite tennis had dinner plans.

Jannik Sinner beat Pedro Martinez 6 1, 6 3, 6 1. He dropped five games, a generous gesture toward the scoreboard operator, who had brought a very small pencil.

Iga Swiatek beat Danielle Collins 6 2, 6 3. Strawberries across SW19 stayed dangerously under consumed when spectators realised the second set had no interest in seeking an extension.

Centre Court clears the queue efficiently

“We promise a full day of sporting theatre,” said Crispin Deuce Fortescue, Keeper of Emergency Pimm’s. “The leading player may simply have a better appointment.”

Novak Djokovic beat Miomir Kecmanovic 6 3, 6 0, 6 4. The middle set lasted long enough for one cloud to consider appearing, inspect the score and continue towards Croydon.

Ticket holders still received the complete Wimbledon experience. There was immaculate grass, hushed tension and the troubling discovery that every adult nearby had a much stronger opinion about tie breaks than they did.

Ground staff entered Centre Court and found three results with no trace of dramatic residue. They watered the patch where suspense had briefly considered growing.

Britain’s longest rally happens at the exit

Fans then faced the day’s only real endurance test, a slow procession towards the station while explaining that yes, the tennis had been excellent, and no, it had not occupied much of the afternoon.
