UN Projects begin by advancing the word advance
UN Projects have launched in India to support South South cooperation and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. The announcement achieved this by deploying enough nouns before breakfast to require a temporary international grammar mission.
India and the United Nations country team started an initial set of projects under a new partnership. The practical purpose is to share knowledge and support development priorities. That work matters, even when the briefing arrives dressed like a committee report with a lanyard.
South South cooperation can help countries exchange skills and solutions. It is a useful idea. The phrase itself, however, sounds like two compasses agreeing to form a steering group.
The partnership gets a ceremonial nameplate
“We have facilitated a framework for the enabling of facilitation,” said Ambrosia Multilateral Scone, Coordinator for Forward Looking Adverbs. “Implementation will commence once commence completes onboarding.”
The Sustainable Development Goals address real needs. The jokes do not land on the communities or aims involved. They land on the institutional prose that can make a water pump sound as if it needs a brand strategy.
Officials tested a plain English version. Delegates briefly understood it. This caused such alarm that a working group was summoned to establish whether clarity had received proper clearance.
At the launch, somebody cut a ribbon. The ribbon represented partnership, delivery and approximately five per cent of the meeting’s available vocabulary.
The dashboard awaits a result
The projects now move from announcement to action. Security gave Action a visitor badge, directed it through six doors and asked it to return once the dashboard had approved its impact pathway.
There will be measurable results, practical learning and serious cooperation. There will also be a consultant who calls every useful thing an output until the useful thing asks to be left alone.
The first completed project may be modest. It could be a shared solution, a new connection or a clear sentence. The clear sentence has already been warned that it may not be scalable.
