Ocean Investment Finds Third Win Under The Sofa

Ocean investment promised a triple win for people, planet and prosperity, leaving finance to look for a cheque large enough to match it.

Ocean investment has achieved a rare triple win for people, planet and prosperity, according to a United Nations panel in Nice. Finance specialists welcomed the news. They had assumed two wins were the legal maximum before someone discovered a fee, a consultant or a man called Julian from investor relations.

The panel called for bold funding of sustainable ocean based economies, cleaner maritime transport and coastal resilience. This is serious work. However, the phrase triple win caused immediate confusion in rooms normally built around the belief that every gain requires a loser with a smaller chair.

"We are fully committed to blue finance," said Peregrine Yield Pond, Chief Liquidity Barnacle. "Our fund seeks strong fundamentals, experienced tides and an exit strategy near Portugal. Naturally, we will measure success in both impact and very handsome charts."

The cheque enters the chat

Speakers discussed ocean data, finance, shipping and support for coastal communities. They also made clear that investment needs to grow. Consequently, the Office of Bold Intentions produced a cheque three metres wide. It photographed beautifully. Sadly, no bank would accept it because the account number had been replaced with the word momentum.

Meanwhile, the ocean declined to complete a risk questionnaire. Every box assumed it was a medium sized enterprise based in Luxembourg. Instead, it continued providing food, transport routes and climate regulation with the stubbornness of an asset that has failed to appoint a chief executive.

By the close, people, planet and prosperity had all been declared winners. The giant cheque stayed on stage, where its zeroes looked sufficiently ocean shaped to be called a pilot project.
