Our Lawn-specific analytics events are designed not to contain email addresses, names, article body text, search terms or other directly identifying information.

Google Analytics is blocked unless you give Statistics consent.

Security and technical information

Our hosting and security systems may process technical information needed to operate and protect the website. This can include IP addresses, request information, timestamps and security events.

We use this information to identify malicious activity, protect accounts, investigate faults and maintain the security of the website.

2. How we use personal information

We use personal information for the following purposes.

Operating and protecting The Lawn

We process technical and security information to operate the website, prevent misuse, diagnose faults and protect the service.

Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in operating and securing The Lawn.

Responding to enquiries

If you contact us, we use the information you provide to respond to your message and manage any follow-up.

Our lawful basis will usually be our legitimate interests in communicating with readers and managing enquiries. Where your request relates to steps you have asked us to take before entering into a contract, the relevant contractual lawful basis may apply.

Newsletter

We use your email address to send The Lawn newsletter where you have chosen to subscribe.

Our lawful basis for electronic newsletter marketing is consent where consent is required.

You can unsubscribe using the link provided in newsletter emails.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before you withdrew it.

Analytics

We use analytics to understand readership, article engagement and how people move through the site.

Analytics operates only after you give Statistics consent through our consent controls.

Our lawful basis for the associated processing is consent.

If Statistics consent is unknown or denied, The Lawn does not load its Google Tag Manager analytics path or send Lawn analytics events to Google Analytics.

Legal and regulatory obligations

We may process information where necessary to comply with applicable law, regulatory requirements, court orders or lawful requests.

Our lawful basis is legal obligation where the law requires the processing.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

The Lawn uses cookies and similar technologies for functions such as site operation, consent management, security and analytics.

We use Complianz to provide our consent controls.

Non-essential Statistics technologies are blocked unless you choose to allow Statistics cookies and related technologies.

You can change your consent choices using the cookie controls available on the website.

More information about the cookies and technologies used on The Lawn is available in our Cookie Policy (UK).

4. Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager

The Lawn uses Google Tag Manager to deliver approved analytics tags and Google Analytics 4 to measure website usage.

Our Google Analytics measurement ID is:

Google analytics technologies are blocked until Statistics consent has been granted.

The Lawn does not deliberately include newsletter email addresses, article body text or search queries in its custom Google Analytics event payloads.

Google may process analytics information outside the United Kingdom as part of providing its services.

5. Newsletter and MailerLite

The Lawn currently uses MailerLite to provide newsletter signup, subscriber management and email delivery.

When you subscribe, information needed to operate your subscription is processed through MailerLite.

MailerLite may use service providers and processing locations outside the United Kingdom.

You can unsubscribe from newsletter emails at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism included in the email.

Newsletter functionality does not depend on you granting Statistics analytics consent.

If you deny Statistics consent, your newsletter subscription can still function, but Lawn analytics events relating to the signup process will not be sent through our Statistics analytics system.

We use service providers to operate and protect The Lawn.

These currently include services for:

  • website hosting
  • website security
  • consent management through Complianz

These providers process information only for the purposes relevant to the services they provide, subject to their applicable contracts, privacy terms and legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information to advertisers.

7. International transfers

Some of our service providers operate internationally and may process personal information outside the United Kingdom.

Where UK personal data is transferred internationally, we require an applicable lawful transfer mechanism to be used. Depending on the provider and destination, this may include UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards.

You can contact us at hello@thelawn.land if you would like more information about the safeguards relevant to a particular service.

8. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet applicable legal, security and record-keeping requirements.

Retention depends on the type of information and the service involved.

Newsletter information may be retained while you remain subscribed. Where necessary, limited suppression or unsubscribe information may be retained after you unsubscribe so that your preference can continue to be respected.

Contact correspondence is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the enquiry, maintain appropriate records and resolve any related issue.

Analytics information is retained according to the settings and retention controls applied to our analytics service.

Security records are retained according to operational and security requirements and the configuration of the relevant security service.

We periodically review information that we retain and remove or anonymise it when it is no longer needed.

  • the right to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • the right to request deletion of personal information
  • the right to request restriction of processing
  • the right to object to certain processing
  • the right to data portability in applicable circumstances
  • the right to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent

If you withdraw consent, this does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

To exercise your rights, contact hello@thelawn.land.

We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

10. Your right to object

Where we rely on legitimate interests to process your personal information, you have the right to object to that processing in certain circumstances.

You also have the right to object to direct marketing.

If you object to direct marketing, we will stop using your personal information for that purpose.

The Lawn is not designed to collect personal information from children.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, contact hello@thelawn.land so that we can review the matter.

14. Automated decision-making

We do not currently use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on readers.

15. Changes to this Privacy Statement

We may update this Privacy Statement when The Lawn’s services, providers or use of personal information changes.

The current version will be published on this page with its latest update date.

Where a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide appropriate information before the new processing begins.
